Medicare days

How do I find out if someone has medicare days left if accounts payable doesn't know

Featured Replies

Find out who your MAC is, the entity who handles your Medicare claims. There should be a tel # to access the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) regarding med a benefits for a beneficiary.

the web site says the patient has 100 days but how do you find out if the patient has exhausted medicare A for a g-tube. we received resident from a facility that is being shut down by the state. we have no idea how long resident has had g-tube placement due to their records not being accurate because patients days never starts over if skilled for g-tube, is there a way to find out.

You can try calling the previous NF (if still in existence) or call your MAC for assistance.

In the meantime, if the resident has a 3-day hospital stay, treat as if she has the full 100 day available. Perform the required PPS assm'ts and submit the claims. It may be denied but at least you'll meet the requirements to bill if the resident does have a new benefit period.
