Med error!

Ok someone if you have any info please help me out! Story goes as this:

Training a new nurse, things going well until today! She gave a patient imitrex through her iv instead of subq! Pharamcy wasnt really concerned because of potential for not even being able to absorb the dose appropriately so they we're assuming the patient probably didn't get the whole dose anyways and they said it's a fairly short half life as well. Patient got slightly dizzy and felt some numbeness/tingling that lasted one min and never returned. Vitals were perfect, ekg done just to be safe and was perfect.

Questions: anyone know anymore info on what if any long term potential effects?

I know I didn't give the med but I am precepting the nurse and am partially responsible which is making it very difficult for me to be at ease.

    I have no idea. That the pharmacist wasn't very concerned is reassuring.

    I'd be very stressed and anxious also. To say nothing of the new trainee who gave the med.

    I know you have more important issues to deal with but if you could let us know if the pharmacist was correct, educate all of us.

    Off topic but this reminds me of HIPAA discussions about asking co-workers about their patient. Some nurses imply it is wrong, a violation, if it isn't your patient you can't ask a coworker anything.

    Toooo stupid.... so many lost opportunities to learn for fear of asking!
