MDS Coordinator

I am currently a Utilization Review/Discharge planning nurse at a pediatric hospital. I am looking for a change. I have seen some positions available for MDS coordinators and would like some insight into this. I have been working at a pediatric facility for 35 years and I wish to work part time. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

There is an MDS sub forum that you can check out. Honestly, I think you'll have a tough time getting a job. The MDS position drives the reimbursement for the facility as well as the public quality measures. I did MDS for 10 years but that was 6 years ago and regs change so quickly with this that I'm not sure anyone would hire me. If you really want it, you'll need to at least start with LTC experience first.
