I am in the Saturday 9-12 class. Did you get the blue "scope of practice" book yet? It's kind of an odd book! I did get the math one too. It is more of a review than anything..perhaps to get us ready for the HESI. I was told that there is some math stuff in this class. What class are you in?
Hi shelbyjosh,
I am not taking the class yet. I will be taking the class this fall. How in depth is the math in this class? Are there a lot of presentation or papers to write? How are the assignments? Are there group projects?
Thanks in advance,
Jaslene
I will be taking it in the fall also..see above post! I am confused as to what books are required though.
Ok here is what I found out about the required books. The 2 needed are Math Skills for Med Professionals by Hickey and Professional Nursing Concepts and Challenges by K. Chitty. Both are reasonable priced on Amazon.
Could you please give me the ISBN numbers for both of the books used in this class, so that I can see if I can get it cheater on Amazon. At MCC the math book cost $104, and the other book cost $26. Books are over-priced at colleges nowandays. I just want to make sure that I buy the right books.
Thanks,
Are you willing to give me the ISBN number for both books. For the math book is it 320 pages? Is the math book blue with a yellow stripe on the side?
Are theses correct?
The math book ISBN 13 #: 978-1416047551
For the nursing book ISBN 13 #: 978-1437707199

Those are the right ISBN #'s but they sell both books together as a bundle for around $105 I think at the MCC bookstore but The Bookmark had both for $95 when I bought them. Amazon looks like it would be more expensive since you have to buy them separately and you might have to pay shipping.

Double check to make sure but I believe that if you use a .edu email address you get free express shipping from Amazon :)
Thanks guys!
Hi rnstudenthpfl,
Are you taking the class or have you already taken it?

I took the class in March. Who is your instructor? We were the last class that used a different book(they didn't buy ours back, they went to a new edition) so I don't know if they changed the class at all, but we had a test just about every week over the previous weeks covered material. We also had 1 group presentation. But she gave us class time to organize and prepare for it. We had 1 really intense week of the math, and then you will not use the math book again, but you will use it if you get into the nursing program from what I have heard. Good luck and enjoy, it was a fun class.
