We are starting drug calculations. We have learned them through dimensional analysis-
x tab= 1 tab/strength X MD order/ 1
The problem-
Amoxil oral suspension 500 mg q6h. How many milliliters will you prepare?
The medication strength is 125mg/mL
Help please! How do you do milliliters with dimensional analysis?

Same way:
125/1 x 500/?
cross multiply and divide
(500 x 1)/125 = 4mL

125mg/1mL = 500mg/XmL
Solve for X.
thank you! i did that but i wasn't so sure if i was right.

Different strokes for different folks hun learn it the best way you know how as long as it is accurate we did not learn it that way but my thing is before I do the problems. I write out my formulas first.
Formula we learned
Desired (what the physican ordered or desired)
_______ X Quantity ( how many ml etc..)
Available (On hand what pharmacy has available)
Formula:
D
___ x Q
A
500 x 1 = 4ml q6hrs
____
125
I Hope that helps. If not disregard if you find this helpful I have one for IV drip rates
