I know there are discussions regarding this topic, however, I still wanted to reach out for some advice.
I am a fairly new NP and have had two employers in my career. I am considering a third position due to relocation. Malpractice coverage has been on my mind now that I will be switching jobs again.
My first employer did not start my malpractice coverage until 3 months of starting (although it was in my contract that we've signed). It is a claims only coverage. No tail coverage was offered (and I was not aware of this as well).
I have a few months gap of no coverage until my next NP job. And with my current job I only have a claims only coverage as well.
I will be getting my only malpractice insurance for occurance based.
My question is...what is the best way to get coverage since I've been practicing?
I've been reading about tail coverage (but I'd have to reach out to my previous employer's insurance to purchase) and nose coverage. Is nose coverage something I can purchase?
Also, should I reach out to my first employer to get coverage since the term of my contract? It is technically a breech of contract.
I should have done my research in advance, when there was no gap, however, I was not very wise and never had an issue until now. I appreciate your help in advance!
