MA to RN

Published

hey all! i have a question...i am currently enrolled in medical assisting school. Honestly i took that route because i am a young mom, the school isn't as long or as expensive as going for my rn..with that said...eventually i really would love to further my education and become an rn.

if you could provide me with any insight on how much schooling i am looking at...after my MA is completed. that is pretty much my question..will i be credited for any of the classes i am taking now, in MA school? does anyone know any websites or have the information on hand, what classes i will need to take for my RN, so i can compare to what i will have been credited for when i complete the MA program.

thanks a bunch! I hope i made sense.

Depends on the school. Are these credited college courses or are they specialized votech kinda classes? Im going with the latter, in which case they would most likely not transfer over.

Your best bet would be to get in contact with a nursing school close to you and ask them. Or just search their websites. Most info can be found there.

Most schools require: chemistry (with lab), psych, sociology, A&P I and II (with labs) microbiology (with lab), some kinda of college math, english, nutrition and usually an ethics class. Check with your nursing school for their specifics.

As far as length of school, at minimium it would be 2 years. But there are a lot of programs with waiting lists or those that require you have al prerequisite classes completed before applying so that time can be longer.

Good luck.

you answered perfectly. thanks so much for taking the time. i will get to doing more research!

Here is my experience, I am a MA went to Kaplan Career Institute. Got a associate's degree that does not transferred anywhere. So i am doing all my pre-reqs for nursing all over again. I have been out for a year and still no job(do have a criminal record) if you are real lucky you will be hired by your externship(as long as it is just you there and not with another student). I would go for lpn then rn.

thank you for replying. good luck!
