Hi, I have been away from nursing for over 10yrs, I surrendered my license due to legal issues. I am looking into getting my license reinstated. I have several questions, 1. would I need to take classes over again? 2. should I get a lawyer for the reinstatement process?

Check with the state in which you are licensed. For example, California's BON site reads:
"Reinstatement of a Lapsed License (8-Year Retake)
Applicants for reinstatement must have once held a permanent license in California that has been expired 8 years or longer. The two methods of reinstatement are as follows:
Applicants who presently hold a current and active registered nurse license in another state, U.S. Territory, or Canada may apply as an 8-Year Renewal. Please refer to the 8-Year Renewal section of our website for information and instructions.
Applicants that do not hold a current and active registered nurse license in another state, U.S. Territory, or Canada are required to retake the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) and must apply as an 8-Year Retake..." and what follows is a list of requirements to be submitted.
Again, check with your state. Best to you!
I just looked into everything I would have to do. Really discouraging. I really can not afford an attorney right now either.?
