Lubbock Nurses

Any hub city nurses out there? I graduated from Tech in 2000and was wondering how the nursing environment is out there? I graduate nursing school in 2011 and was wondering about pay and ability to specialize in departments such as OR. Very interested in working at UMC. Thanks!!!

Hey! I am graduating from Tech SON in May, so I've done my rotations in Lubbock, I know a little about the hospital environments that could maybe help. I'll start with Covenant- it is not a very good work environment, it feels like the company is more into making money than taking care of their pts. The nurse-pt ratio is ridiculous and you can tell a lot of the nrs don't want to be there. UMC- I've heard great things about this hospital and how they treat their employees!

Lubbock Heart Hospital is an amazing hospital it is smaller than both Covenant and UMC, but it gives you more of a community feel. The nurse-pt ratio is about 3-4 pts/nurse!! They also have 8hr shifts available! If I were staying in Lubbock I would work at the Heart Hospital, especially if you're into hearts! I hope this helps. I don't know much about pay or ability to specialize, I'm moving to Austin when I graduate, so I haven't done much snooping around.

Hope your holidays were great,

Mattie
