Does any one work at a LTC on 3rd shift???
I was wondering what its like to work 3 rd shift at a LTC. I like working nights...i worked in a different career ... but would like to switch from working the day shift to nights. Any info???

I used to work thirds in LTC. There wasn't much hustle and bustle like there is on days. The med pass was a killer though, and it seems like someone always waits until you are passing meds to die or need to go to the hospital. I felt like everyone puts everything off on third shift because they think you have tons of free time, which isn't the case. Personally, I prefer second shift.

I love 3rd shift but my body doesn't.(Every one of my body systems gets very irregular after a night shift). Theres still work but theres no chaos and residents jumping out of their chairs(usually) like day shift.
Start meds early so if those unplanned events do occur, you have time.

I would say it depends on what unit you are on... if its a LTC dementia or psych unit... Nights isn't any easier than days or seconds... in fact could be worse since you have all the sundowners and people who can't sleep and their Ativan isn't working...
