Thanks everyone for your advice below!! I am still looking into all my options.

I know the Rivier part-time night program is easy to get into and would fit into my schedule nicely - well sorta.

Has anyone here taken the Rivier part-time night program? I would start next fall in the clinicals.

I was thinking about first becoming a LNA through Health Career Trainings then going on for my RN at Rivier as they have an agreement with them. Hoewever, I have heard from more than one source that LPN'S are being phased out? And tha LPN'S are being replaced by LNA'S because of cost factors and because RN's have to overlook LPN'S work anyway, such as with checking off the charts.

I just do not know if can stomache being a LNA!! I heard though you can get paid an upwards of $15 for a LNA, but then have also heard a starting pay of $9.50. I would love to be a LNA at first to interact with the patients, but not sure if could handle cleaning up urine, vomit, or feces!

Any advice?

I attend the Rivier day program. I wouldn't pay extra for your LNA if you don't have it, as after your first semester of nursing school is passes successfully, you can get your LNA license. If you want to start working before then though, you should get it. And yes, starting pay is not good, and you don't get up to $15 base pay for a long time. You could make a total of that an hour with shift differential though.

I haven't heard of LPN's being phased out at all. The St. Joe's LPN program are alive and well, with lots of students from what I've seen and heard.

This program cracks me up. I work at St. Joe's and they do not hire LPN's. Yes they train them but will not hire them. Both hospitals in Nashua will not hire LPN's. The majority work in MD offices and LTC. BTW if you can't stomach cleaning up vomit and poop you might not want to be a nurse either. Your charge nurse may not be too happy with you if you left your patient in a mess to find a LNA to clean it.:nono:

On another note I heard from the students at Riv that the schedule is a lot more flexible. They even have Saturday night clinicals available! There are so many nursing programs out there right now I am sure you will find something that suits you.

BTW if you can't wait until the end of your first semester to get your LNA St. Joseph offeers that as well. They may be cheaper too. Then you could transition into the RN program there. Like I said sooooo many possibilities! Good Luck!

God I am a scatter brain today, I just jumoed from topic to topic without any transition. Sorry its the last day of school for this year and my brain officially dies for the summer. It may be back on by September. LOL
