There are several options for LPNs to transition to work-from-home roles. Here are some potential paths:

  • Medical coding and billing. LPNs can take courses to become certified in medical coding and billing. This role involves processing insurance claims and can often be done remotely.
  • Utilization review. Utilization review nurses assess the necessity and efficiency of healthcare services. This role typically requires some experience in the field and may require additional certification.
  • Telehealth nursing. Telehealth is proliferating, and many organizations hire LPNs to provide remote patient care, instructions, and triage through phone or video calls.
  • Case management. Case managers coordinate patient care, ensuring they receive the necessary services and support. This role can often be done remotely.
  • Nurse educator or trainer. LPNs can work as educators or trainers for healthcare software companies, teaching other healthcare professionals how to use new systems and technologies.
  • Insurance claims reviewer. Working for insurance companies to review claims and ensure proper billing and coverage. This role often requires knowledge of medical terminology and conditions.
  • Medical transcription. While this field is becoming more automated, there are still opportunities for LPNs with strong medical terminology knowledge to work in medical transcription.
  • Health Informatics. This involves managing and analyzing health information and data. Additional training or certification in health informatics may be required.
  • Remote clinical research coordinator. Assisting in managing clinical trials and research studies from a remote setting.
  • Customer service for healthcare companies. Some healthcare-related companies hire LPNs for customer service roles that can be performed remotely.

Hi Beth. I was seeking remote positions as well but did not know where to start. However I did some research over the past 6 months. I am currently burnt out from bedside nursing and wanted a change. I have a list of resources for remote positions, and non traditional nurse positions here. https://www.instagram.com/nursetava

the information is just too much to share here so I shared my IG
