LPN to RN

I was told in one case that if I took online courses that required clinicals they would be set up with the local hospitals. Just ask the person in charge of the program how that would work. You could also take whatever prerequisites while waiting, if there are any you need to take. You don't necessarily need to be matriculated to do this either. You can matriculate once you get to the clinicals if it is a local program you are considering.

Online courses from LPN to RN are out there. I will caution you before picking a program that it is accepted at your Board of Nursing for you to sit for NCLEX. Here in California the program you graduate from MUST be an approved school that the program is accredited from the Board of Nursing. The Board has a list of those schools that you can chose from. Online bridges are sometimes more difficult in the practicum (clinical) requirements. Just do some really thorough investigation and ask alot of questions.

I did the Excelsior program in 2004. There were no "clinicals" but there was a CPNE that was a clincal based assessment at the end of the program. I did the program in 1 year from start to finish. The biggest warning I give is that this program is self motivated. If you do not have the ability to follow through on your own this might be difficult. Some people need the class room structure and time limits. This program is self paced. The only state that doesn't allow graduates to test is CA but you can be given reciprocity. I hope this helps! Is there anyone out there with good advice? Im so frustrated! Im trying to find an lpn to rn transition program and it seems like all the ones I have found dont offer again until next fall of 2013. I was hoping to start at least by winter. I dont want to wait to long. Most people I talk to at these campuses are saying there is a 2 yr wait least. Are u serious? How can that be when I just want to transition in. I live 40 min from columbus and about 1 hr from cincinnati. I have checked several schools in my area and feel like im getting no where. Has anyone done online courses and how does that work with clinicals?

I am currently doing the Excelsior program and I love the flexibility it gives me! I wouldn't be able to do it if I have to travel & attend classes, etc. You do have to be motivated and establish good study habits. Passing the exams is a good motivator. I would highly recommend looking into it.

I think Excelsior does adequately prepare nurses bridging to RN. The exams cover a lot of nursing content and really focus on critical thinking skills, much like the national licensure exams. Two intensive courses involving writing care plans and a rigorous clinical exam at the end of the program round out the course. I think there is only one,or maybe two states that do not recognize the program due to a requirement for concurrent clinicals. There is also an option to continue on with the bachelor's and masters programs. Excelsior is a great option for continuing your education.

If you relocated and were seeking employment in FL as an experienced RN, I doubt the school you attended would be an issue. Maybe some others have input on this, but unless you were a new graduate, they should still consider you. Getting a nursing license for that state could be an issue if they look at which school you graduated from, however. You'd have to find out. It may come down to is working in a state that recognizes Excelsior, and most do.

I'm enrolled in the Excelsior program and love it. I know a few nurses that have completed it and have had no problems passing boards or aquiring employment. That is in PA.

I live in LA, and I'm doing excelsior as well, I know several people who have done it and passed boards. It's convenient to work at your own pace, but you do have to be self motivated. There is a weekend clinical that's more like a clinical lab you have to pass at the end, good luck!
