LPN career?

Published

Greeting all:

I just want to see what eveyone else has to say about this. So I'm 27 yrs old and is thinking about a career change. I've always wanted to get into the medical field and I think now that I'm not working this would be the perfect time to take that step. But is LPN right for me? Does anyone know of any good schools to get into? What about the cost of the program? I'm very confused as to what direction to take right now. Can someone please let me know about their experience as an LPN? Is it difficult? Just need some clarity. Thank you!!

I was about your age when I "went back to school". It was the best thing I ever did! Of course I had been a CNA for a few years! The only advice I can give you is to follow your heart! My dad always told me that things happen for a reason! As far as schools- it depends on your state! so do the costs! All I can say is keep an open mind and follow your heart! Good luck in whatever you decide!!

I love being an LPN, but I will go on for RN just because it affords me more options. I'm twice your age and went back to school at 50 due to being laid off. It was hard. Out of 52 students who started only 14 of us graduated. Most of the people who graduated were over 25 and very motivated. The program is rigorous because they squeeze a lot into a short time. The job is also hard, but if you love what you do, it's also fun. There's a ton of information.

If you do it, plan on being completely devoted to school and studying for the year. You will not socialize, watch TV, exercise or do anything except go to class, clinicals, labs and then go home and study. Sleep a little then do it all again tomorrow.

This is not to scare you off, if you want it bad enough, you just do it. It is totally worth it, when you're done you will be so proud. Good luck with your decision.

Thank you guys for replying. I know this will take alot of hard work and dedication and I'm ready for that. Hey nothing is impossible right? I'm just scared of failing, and letting people down, most of all letting myself down. I was never a good student in school so I'm worried it might be too much for me to handle. Anyone else have any other insights, please do share. I will need all the information and good luck there is. I'm really excited about entering this new stage in my life, ready to do something I enjoy and be good at it. Anyone know of a good school? :redpinkhe

It is difficult for people to recommend schools if we do not know your geographical location (city, state, or metro area). :)

Sooo sorry guys ^ I'm located in New York City. Thanks again for all the help.
