Published

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what it takes to become an lpn... how long does schooling take, what's the hourly pay rate, what type of work enviroment can lpn's work in and more importantly what's the working schedule for an lpn is it an 9-5 or more like an 12hr shift...

Ps... any advice will be appreciated thanks :-)

Check into your local schools to find out how long their programs are and what pre- requisites you need to have. 9-5 hours? hmm only if you work for a doctor which equates to very low pay. Most facilities are either 8 hour shifts or 12. The shifts which are 8 hour most usually are 7am-3 pm or there abouts, 3-11 pm, 11pm-7 am.. 12 hour shifts are 7am-7pm, 7pm-7am,, usually must work every other weekend and work approx 3-4 holidays a year depending on how many holidays a facility recognizes.

as to pay, it varies.

LPN school is anywhere from 1-2 years in length. Some require pre-requisites and others don't. Prices vary widely for school and salaries depend on your geographical area. I'm a little biased but have you ever considered joining the Army Reserves? I received my LPN license in a little over a year as well as a EMT license and got paid to do it. The reserves will also provide you with a $5000-$10000 sign on bonus, $24000 for college money after you get your LPN and many other bonuses. I have only deployed once and worked in the ICU. During nursing school we did rotations in the ICU, OR and PACU where in civilian nursing school they go to nursing homes!
