not looking good.

Well I can't believe I have been unemployed for over a month. I have applied and applied and I'm starting to get worried. I am in a LPN to RN classes but I won't be able to get my RN till maybe middle of next year. Could really use LPN experience under my belt before I get my RN and not to mention I need an income. I'm also worried that when I get my RN, I will be in the same boat. And I have applied EVERYWHERE, homehealth, nursing home, assisted living, hospital, docs office. I don't get an interview or I do get an interview and I guess I say the wrong things. I don't know just really discouraged and afraid I waster my $. I was a supervisor in a retail store for 3 years so I guess I will have to try and find a position in retail till something happens, if they will even hire me.

It has only been a month. I wouldn't worry just yet. Last year I graudated from my LPN program in August. I needed a vacation and wanted time to study for my NCLEX. I took my NCLEX on October 4th and found out the very next day that I had passed. I would send out resumes everywhere and would hear nothing. It would drive me nuts. Or I'd have an interview that went awesome then...I'd hear nothing. I didn't get my first LPN job until January. It was an on-call job at LTC. I wanted something just to pass time by while I went back to the community college to finish up a few more classes so I could work toward bridge programs.

Just a couple side note questions. Have you reviewed your resume to make sure there are no errors in them? Or have you talked to the people you have put down to be your references? Sometimes things get messed up along those lines. Happened to my mom with references not contacting back and she was able to get the problem fixed and get the job. Just saying.

Also, I've known of people who didn't really work much as an LPN and turned around and got their RN. So if you find yourself in that kind of position, I find nothing wrong with that. You will be trained at work and you'll have days where you're like what the crap am I doing here? But, you'll find your wings and just fly.

Your time and money spent for school was well worth it. It is what you do while you are waiting that counts. You are looking for work and working towards your RN. Don't worry, everything will come together. Have faith in yourself.

Don't feel bad or get discouraged your not alone I relocated to Dallas,Tx in February. I didn't start looking until around March and her it is toward the end of May & I have yet to get a job! And I have around 2 1/2 years experience in LTC so it's not you believe me.

Have you tried applying in person for jobs? Especially at LTC, it seems like anything online never gets there. You can call ahead and ask if they are accepting applications or have any shifts open. More than a few times Ive gotten an interview on the spot, and sometimes even a job offer. Even places I have applied before and never heard from, I would put an in person application, asked about the online ones, the answer was "oh we never see those, they seem to get lost at corporate".

Specializes in LTC.

Took me two months...Have you tried calling facilities yourself? Seems like LTC just expects nurses to drop from heaven......

thanks you all for the support and encouragment... I just saw an ad on Saturday for a part-time LPN at a Nursing home, I am going to call tomorrow and ask if I can come in for an interview and fill out an app. and I plan to have my kids go to a babysitter tomorrow and I am going to drop by every place I see that hires LPNs and hoping something comes out of it.

Glenna, LPN- I have reviewed my resume and I believe it looks good and all my references are aware that I am applying. and also thank you for your encouragement, I appreciate it!

Specializes in A little bit of this and that.

I live in Los Angeles..back in 09-10 took me 4 months to find on-call(hospice) employement which average about 8 hrs a week, and another 6 months before I found full time(LTC) employement. Once you get at least 6 month of good full time experience, getting another job will be easier.... but in the beginning, as a new grad, you just gotta keep trying.
