Licensing - from BC to Alberta

Published

Hey everyone, I am going to be graduating in April this year and I live in BC, I was wondering if anyone knew where I need to go in order to obtain proper licensing and registration once I grad, as I am only familiar with BC policy! Thanks.

Hi lani17. There are lots of threads here on the Canadian forum about moving from province to province that you might get some good information from. You will need to contact the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (or the College and Association of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta if you're a student PN, you didn't specify) to start the process of licensing here. You will have to register in BC first and then in Alberta the first year. This regulation is because the College is responsible for ensuring that education in its province is up to the national standard, and by registering graduates from that province they're demonstrating that fact.
