Letting them get to me..HELP!!!!

BEEN LETTING A FEW MHT'S, MENTAL HEALTH TECHS GET TO ME. I AM A RN AT PSYCH HOSPITAL. I HAVEN'T BEEN THERE NEAR AS LONG AS THEM. THEY'VE BEEN THERE 12-15 YEARS WHICH MAY BE PART OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY THINK NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO THEM. I FEEL SO POWERLESS BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL BACKED BY MY BOSSES. SOME OF THE TECHS ARE SO MEAN, RUDE AND LOUD TO THE PATIENTS WHO ARE MENATLLY ILL. I REALIZE SOME PATIENTS DO HAVE HAVE ANGER PROBLEMS BUT THEY ARE ANGRY FOR A REASON. WE SIMPLY SEE THING DIFFERENTLY. I FEEL HELPLESS. IT SEEMS AS IF MY BOSSES JUST DON'T SEE IT OR DON'T WANT TO SEE IT. I MENTIONED IT THE OTHER DAY. I JUST DON'T WANT TO PUSH THE ISSUE AND GET IN TROUBLE MYSELF.

I WAS IN SOME TROUBLE AS A TEEN AND WAS IN A PSYCH UNIT AND HAD PEOPLE TREAT ME MEAN. IT HURT ME. IT DIDN'T HELP ME AT ALL. I HAVE BEEN PRAYING, VENTING, WRITING ABOUT THIS SITUATION. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS THAT MIGHT HELP ME FEEL MORE IN CONTROL. THE MHT'S KNOW I AM AGAINST THE WAY THEY TREAT THE PATIENTS. I KNOW THEY TALK BAD ABOUT ME BEHIND MY BACK. IF THE BOSSES ARE OK WITH IT WHAT AM I TO DO? HOW CAN I FEEL MORE IN CONTROL? I LIKE WHERE I WORK I JUST DON'T LIKE THAT PART. :banghead:

Unfortunately you have to maintain a harmonious relationship with them since you guys work together, and you can never work alone.

While these people have been there longer than you, that doesn't give them the right to treat patients rudely. Be the role model that you are, teach by example and show them that you treat your patients kindly. You can't really shove your values down their throats at this point of their lives.

Talk to your supervisor about the situation and express how you feel. I'm sure you're not the only one feeling this way. Ask colleagues how they deal and I'm sure you'll find that you're in the same boat.

The great thing is that you realize that you do not want to become one of them so be thankful for that. We have enough rude people in this world, we do not need more.

Keep being yourself and you never know how much change you can do at one day at the time.
