learning on the job

Hello, any particular area of nursing thats best for nurses that just graduated. Thanks

The best areas for new grads are not by specialty but by hospitals that believe in giving the new grad proper orientation, etc. Look into the orientation program. Sometimes med-surg is "easier" because a lot of students got experience in med-surg while in school, so the transition from school to med-surg is easier. However, some specialities like L&D and critical care have much longer preceptorships, so that's another option.

Good luck.

I agree with Tweety. I also believe that working on a Med-surg unit will help you decide on a specialty in nursing. I've seen where nurses start on Med-surg and then move on to critical care or ER or some other speciality unit. Some students come out of school knowing where they want to go with their education so they start out specializing.
