Lead CNA

Specializes in pediatrics/neuro.

Hi,

I am doing research for a Lead CNA position and am curious how many of you have such a postion where you are employed. Do you have one person who oversees the CNA? I'm interested in the job description and what clinical skills the CNA does.

I work for a Childrens Hospital in California and I think having someone supervise just our CNAs would be beneficial, so I need details!

Thanks in advance!

We don't have such a thing. One CNA on my shift has worked at our hospital for over 20 years but she doesn't have any more sway over any of the rest of us. When I worked in LTC, there wasn't a lead CNA, either. The charge nurse for our shift oversees all the CNAs.

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

We have a lead CNA in our facility but we are very small facility and I think many of the extra tasks she takes on would be done by a different role in a larger facility. Her job is the exact same as the rest of us in terms of care giving but she also helps out with things like CNA hiring, training of new CNAs, and some other administrative tasks (e.g. CNA scheduling). On a day-to-day basis the fact that she is "Lead CNA" is not a big deal and she prefers does not draw a line between herself and the rest of the CNAs.
