Thanks, Could I ask some scheduling questions I have about the program?

I am trying to figure out if I get accepted whether or not I have to quit my job or whether I can continue to work but cut back to 10-15 hours a week if my job is willing to do that.

We take the courses one at a time right?

Does your class, lab and clinical schedule vary from month to month or does the LCC program actually give me the ability to tell my job that for the next year I could work, for example, M-F 8-10?

Are there any semester breaks, my cousin is getting married in India in the summer and I will have to be over there for a week or so in July. Not sure if this means I will have to pass up a chance to start in the March 2008 class or not.

Yes the courses are 1 at a time. They each last 6 or 7 weeks except for the last 2 that last 8 weeks.

Your schedule changes every 6-7 weeks. The first week of class is always filled with skills labs of some sort then after that it is basically lecture 1 day & clinical 2 days a week. For the accelerated program, they do a lot of the material online. Unfortunately you don't know your exact schedule until about 2 weeks before each class starts; lecture, labs, and clinical never end up being on the same days. I have had weekday clinicals, evening clinicals and weekend clinicals so unfortunately it's always a surprise what group you get put into. We still do not have our lab or clinical schedule for when we come back from Christmas break. All we know is we have lecture on Wednesday afternoons, other than that we are in the dark.

If you begin in March, you will not follow LCC's normal breaks until the last 2 classes. We started the Monday following the normal LCC spring break and we did not have a break again until the first week of July. They gave us the week of the 4th of July off. You get the normal few days off for Thanksgiving and now we are getting the normal Christmas break. The last 2 classes are at the normal pace so we will come back on the normal semester start date and get spring break off.

Hope that helps. It is a bit frustrating to never know what the schedule will be for the next class until the last minute but it tends to be the same way for the traditional students as well.

If I am not reading that the wrong way, I can see how you were able to work 20 hrs during this program. I don't want to get overconfident because I am not sure how much work this program is and everyone at LCC says that it is tough but, I think that sort of schedule would allow you to work at least 10 hours a week if you can find a job that will fit with the constantly changing schedule from month to month.

Yes you are reading that correct. The majority of the time it's only 3 days per week of activities, sometimes there are a few extra things thrown in like observation experiences and things like that. The first week of each class is pretty hectic but other than that I do not think it as bad as LCC says it is. I am sure everyone is different but I work 2 days a week, do a lot of non-school things, am in the middle of planning a wedding and I have never got below a 3.5 in a class (knock on wood). I think having a previous degree really helps in you don't have to learn how to study or be a student.
