Hello
Do you need a laptop or netbook for nursing? During classes is it better to use pen and paper or a laptop?

I think it depends on bout you & your instructors. personally I have a laptop. I tired taking notes with pen & paper & was always like 4 pages behind. But with my laptop I can type quicker & even if there are typos I can figure out what was meant. Also I had instructors who's lectures were horrible so typing helped to keep me focused. :) Now I do have microsoft home & student & it comes with a program called onenote that I LOVE for taking notes in class. It helps me stay a little more organized with my notes.

I think it's your preference. If you search this thread, maybe around page 3 or 4 or so theres a REAAAALLLY good thread on laptops. It has some info on Microsoft's "OneNote" application that I see a lot of students are using.
Here's the link. It was actually on pg 8. Guess it's been a minute since I read it:

Our program is old school in that they teach the old ways and new ways of nursing, but we dont use laptop's during class or PDA's, which is good and bad depending on how you look at it

If you're not a really good typist, don't bother trying to take class notes on a computer. I am an excellent typist and I greatly prefer using Word for my notes but it can be a challenge sometimes.
I actually used a digital camera as well to capture drawings that the teacher did because I've never been good at copying diagrams.
I also recorded lectures on my digital voice recorder so that I had everything even if I got delayed.
I found it very helpful to make copious use of keyboard shortcuts, macros, paragraph styles, and autocorrect sequences.
I even became good enough with the equation editor to type my notes in statistics.
