Hello. I've recently received my acceptance letter at LA county for spring 2013 start. I'm still waiting on LAHC's acceptance letters probably coming early December. Now, if I don't get in LAHC, would it still be a good thing to go to County? I rather go to LAHC but I will take anything and open for options. thanks!

Going to any nursing school is better than not going to any nursing school if you want to be a nurse. It's competitive, I would wherever I could.

Hi, I received a letter from LAC School of Nursing as well! I barely saw it today, even though they sent it in October... I am not sure if I should accept the offer.. It cost more than other schools I applied to and I will know if I get into the others around the same time as you. (December)
What are you planning to do? Do you know if LA County School of Nursing is certified??
I accepted the invitation just in case i do not get into LAHC. I will be attending the pre-registration on the 16th to ask questions and stuff. Now, if I get in to my number 1 choice, I will just have to call County and give up my spot. Yes they are certified and you get an Associate's Degree once you are done.

Hi Roxxayy
I also got accepted to the county program. Are you still going to go?? I have spoken to several working RN's and one is in administration and she says to go with county if I had the chance. Her county nurses are more prepared and more comfortable on the floor. I am still waiting to hear from two other schools, but I think county is where I should go.
Hello Amos, Yes I will be attending the pre-registration on the 16th. :) are you? I've sent the acceptance card already the day after I received the mail. My only dilemma is that I live in Torrance, much closer to LAHC than County. I would take LAHC in a heart beat but if I don't get picked in the second round lottery, I will be going to County. Hope to meet you at the pre-registration on Friday :)

My biased opinion is that you should go to County! It's biased because I am a student there but when I was applying I had to make the same choice as you. Go with LAHC or County? You'll hear it time and time again, your clinical experience in County really can't be beat. Other nurses and employers will also tell you that County nurses are well prepared when they start to work. LAC+USC is primarily a teaching hospital so everyone is pretty open to helping the students and teaching them. At least, that's been my experience so far.
BUT, of course, there are other things to consider. How much further would County be for you? Which schedule would best fit into your life? How much money do you want to spend? LAHC will still get you to the goal of being an RN so if that's a better fit, then go for LAHC.
Thank you willowita for replying! I've read your posts on the other thread that is nowclosed. I don't even know the schedule for LAHC yet, they haven't sent acceptance emails yet. They will by the end of November. Anyway, I am interested in county and will be attending pre-registration. M only concern is that county is not nlnac accredited.
I can understand your concern. I was worried about that too but if you do some digging, you'll find that nlnac accreditation is a bigger deal in other parts of the country than in CA. There are actually a lot of CA schools that are not accredited by nlnac. It really is an issue of funds for accreditation, not because a program is subpar. If you plan on leaving the state, it could become an issue and you never know what will happen in the future. But you should definitely bring it up during pre-registration and see what they tell you about it.
Ok thank you! Also about job placement. Do you know if county has a great percentage of job placement? Coz you know.. There are a lot of unemployed nurses out there.
I'm not sure what the job outlook is like for Country grads specifically, but like you said, overall it's tough to get a job in general. The stats from a couple of years ago was that 43% of CA new grads couldn't find a job in the first year. But of those that did, having a reference or connection was one of the biggest factors. So if you know someone in healthcare, reach out to them and keep them in mind.
Thanks willowita, I will keep that in mind. Well, today is pre-registration. Hopefully I don't get lost trying to find parking! lol
