Hello,
I've been out of nursing for 10 year now a hospital in PR is offering me a new job as RN in their L & D facility. I have RN experience in M/S, Oncology, and some in Peds, Do you guys think I will be alright at L&D since I have none experience there? Any recommendations, pls? Thanks in advance! :)

HI, Labor and delivery is a different beast. It is generally fast paced with periods of down time. You definitely have common sense from your previous experiences some of the best labor and delivery nurses I know came from other back grounds. I did L&d first then tried to do med/surg and it was a nightmare needless to say I came back to L&D. Give it a shot You might really love it.

I would only take it if they have a good, extensive, formal training program for you. It is very different from other areas - remember that you are treating 2 patients almost all the time - one of whom you cannot see! You really need a good preceptorship and training both for protection of your patients and of your license.
Absolutely right! You bet that was the very first question that I asked if they have a training program and they told me that they will give me an extensive training AND THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO HELP ME EVEN THE SUPERVISOR and answer all my q's. I am very anxious and so happy at the same time. Thanks for your kind words :heartbeat
