Just got accepted into nursing program...

Hello,

I just got accepted in community college ADN program for spring semester. I work full time and have 2 kids and supporting wife,, I really need advises from you guys. Will I be able to do it while working a full time job? because stop working is not an option at all because I need to work to support my family, My GPA is 4 in my prerequisites and I just completed CNA course too.. Currently I work in retail, is it a good idea to work as cna while going to school, does it help to get experience in the medical field?

Thanks

My advice would be to definitely look into getting a CNA job. If you can get a CNA position in a hospital that will help you greatly in gaining experience but it will also aid you with getting an RN position once you graduate and jobs for new grads are hard to come by these days. Whether or not you can work full time and go to nursing school really depends on what your class/clinical schedule looks like. You'll have to adjust around school and work to find the best compromise that works for you. :)

I currently work as a CNA at a retirement home, and I start nursing school in the fall. If nothing else, working as a CNA helps you feel comfortable around the patients. You get a lot of the basic nursing skills out of the way (transfers, ADL's, Personal Hygiene). Also, they are pretty flexible with shifts. Where I work, I just pick up open shifts when it fits into my schedule. You could always be PRN/On Call.
