Just accepted position- advice?

Published

Hello all, I am graduating with my BSN in August and just accepted a position in the ER at Harper University Hospital in Detroit. It is an ARC, (Detroit Receiving the major trauma center is right next door), but I hear we still get the occassional gun shot wounds dropped off at the door. My plan is to work here for a year or so and do an in house transfer to ICU in my pursuit of CRNA. Any advice for the new grad? Anything would help.

Kevin,

Hold on man your in for quite a ride. I worked in EMS while I went through Nursing School in Flint and Detroit. We called the complex the DMZ. There are a lot of great nurses there that you can really learn alot from. Ask a lot of questions and don't take stuff personally. Learn to laugh at yourself and others outloud. And always be respectful.

Good Luck,

Jim
