Nurses New Nurse

Published

I am a nursing student graduating this December. I have had 7 interviews at various hospitals over the last week and have just been called back for a second interview tomorrow with the unit director after interviewing today with the nurse manager and two supervisors. I am pretty certain that I will be offered a position as the email that I received from the nurse manager regarding the interview tomorrow with the director stated, "I think that you would be a great fit with the organization". Problem is, I am still interviewing else where! This hospital is one of my top 3 choices, but should I take it just because they are the first to present an offer? What is the protocol when interviewing at multiple hospitals? Can I ask for some time to think about it as I am still interviewing or will that make me lose the offer?

Also, if you could please give me opinions here. The interview tomorrow is with a private hospital and I am waiting to hear from two county hospitals. I am trying to get into a L&D position and I am pretty certain that the county hospitals would give me more experience, but would it be a good experience? I honestly don't know. The county hospitals would also give me the opportunity to apply for the NELRP which the private would not. All of that said, I believe that I would probably LIKE working at the private hospital better than country. I am feeling a lot of uncertainty here.

All of that said, isn't it great to be in a career where the problem is TOO many possible job choices instead of not enough?

I agree that if our only complaint is too many job offers we are doing great, lol. Since jobs were so plentiful I only applied at my first choice, got it, and have been very happy there ever since. Most places know that you will be interviewing but I'm not sure exactly how long you can put them off while you shop around. You might get more hits if you post this on the general nrusing board. Congratulations it sounds like you are sitting pretty.

I'm trying to be patient, but it's getting harder and harder by the day. I wonder what I am doing wrong.

I am sorry to hear that some of you are having problems finding a job. That really sucks.

My school has a career services department that helped me rewrite my resume, work on interviewing skills, and just general interview coaching. It really helped!
