Hi everyone,
I am a student nurse and qualify in september I live in the UK and have recently applied for a job on the NICU at my local hospital, well I went for a look round last week and Ive just found out today that Ive got an interview on 2nd June!!!!!!
I just need a little advice....
The job description says no experience is required but an genuine enthusiasm for the department is essential.... well I have no experience in neonatal but I applied for midwifery before my nursing, would it be an advantage to mention this?
I'm soooo passionate about this area of nursing and couldnt imagine working anywhere else, any interview advice would be appriciated
Thanks!

There's a link at the top of this forum about interviewing

If you do a basic search, you'll find plenty of threads on interviewing in the NICU. I'd suggest doing a search for NICU interviews in the UK forum as well since most of this forum is about US nurses in the NICU.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes; I'm curious about UK NICU nursing since I am pretty close to being engaged to a UK citizen and might move there in the future.

I felt exactly the same before my neonatal interview, as I'd just done the adult nursing program. I was terrified going for an interview there!
Just remember that your lack of experience is something which gives you great potential. They like having people from different fields and with different experiences. So play on that, and try to see how your experience of different areas can be brought to the unit. For me, I used the fact that I'd had lots of experiences in caring for adults, which was good in a neonatal setting as you care for the infant's family too. Ask them all about their induction periods, pre-foundation programs, further study and areas for development. Ask if you can do anything yourself to help you develop in the area.
You've got determination and passion, so you've already got what they're looking for. I think you'll do great. :wink2: Good Luck!!
