Jefferson's Direct Entry Master's Program

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's too late to apply to Jefferson's direct entry master's program for fall entry? Also, if there are any alumni of the program, I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about the program. Thanks very much! :nuke:

They don't have a direct entry program *per se*. Both their FACT BSN (one-year) and their Accelerated Pathway BSN (2 years) programs simultaneously admit you to the BSN and MSN programs. Is that what you mean? I am assuming you already have a bachelor's in another field, right?

As of a month ago, there were only a few slots open in either program. If I were you, I would give the APW/FACT admissions counselor, Nikki Kelley, a call and find out if there are any slots open. I don't want to publish her phone number here, but you can find the admissions number on TJU's website:

http://www.tju.edu/jchp/nursing/fact.cfm

Call that number and ask for her directly, or just ask whoever answers the phone if the programs are filled for Fall 2008.

Hi Lori,

Thanks for the advice, I called the school to get more information as I know it is a very competitive program. There is actually a waitlist for the accelerated pathway program, which is the one I am interested in. I'm still going to apply anyway though, and hope that something works out. I really like the school, it's just unfortunate that I did not learn about the program sooner. Thanks again!

Definitely go ahead and apply! If you apply online, it's only $25 and not $50 for the application fee. :)

I've gotten positive feedback about the program from others here on Allnurses, and I've also spoken with nursing students in-person, and they seemed pretty happy with the program.

Best of luck!

If you haven't seen it, here's the thread where I've been pestering Jefferson APW students: :lol2:

Hi Lori,

I just got waitlisted:cry: Thomas Jefferson is my first choice of school and I unfortunately did not apply anywhere else. I still feel that I do have a chance of getting in. I am a transfer student who has all the required pre-requisites with a 3.48 gpa at a nearby community college and now trying to get into the undergraduate BSN program at TJU. While extremely heartbreaking, is there any advice that you can lend towards me? Can you inform me on how the waitlist system works at TJU or have any insight if any further documents such as further letters of recommendations or another essay might help me get in. I am applying for the fall '08 semester and would love any advice or contacts that I can reach out to to strengthen my application. Thanks in advance!

Geez, I'm sorry you got waitlisted! Did they give you any indication about where you are on the waitlist -- like near the top, at the bottom, #50 or what? I don't know how their waitlist works, but I'm assuming it's like any other school. Once people start bailing out, for whatever reason, the school starts going down the list of waiting people. So don't give up!! Honestly though, if they've got you waitlisted, I wouldn't waste any more energy sending them letters of recommendation or other documentation. They've already decided you're good enough to get in; it's just a matter of them not having enough open slots.

With your grades and determination, if you *don't* get in for Fall 08, definitely apply EARLY, like the October early deadline, for Fall 09. You shouldn't have any trouble then.

One thing that may be in your favor is that the student loan situation everywhere is in turmoil, people aren't able to borrow against the equity in their homes (if they *have* any equity, that is!!), etc. So I'm betting that some people are going to have to defer their start date or not start at all. While that's bad for them, it could be good news for people on the waitlist like you.

Here's some fairy dust to help you get in!

:wshgrt:

Hey, Elizabeth, did you apply and did you get in?

Take care!
