Ivy Tech score to get in and program mean??

Published

I am applying to Ivy Tech's ASN program this April. I took my TEAS today and only got a 78.2%. I did extremely well in English and Reading. I was in the 90th percentile. The Math and Science is what really brought me down. I only scored 66.7% on each. I am going to take it again in March before applying and am wondering how high I need to score to improve my chances of getting in. I have all A's on my pre-reqs.

I am also wondering about the program mean that is given with the scores. It says the program mean is 75.2%. This seems like an awfully low score to have and still get into the program. Any ideas on this??

I studied the ATI testing book from front to back. I really thought I had it down, but I found that the science and math questions were NOT comparable to the ones in the book. I'm so discouraged right now. :crying2:

Don't let the TEAS TEST SCARE YOU. I was an average high school student and returned to college at the age of 30. I got 81.8% and didn't review for it. Really if you can think logically and brush up a little on your algebra you'll be fine. I promise. Out of the 64 people who took it at our school everyone did well enough to enter the program. You knw they offer practice exams on their web site . Good Luck!

I suppose it depends on which Ivy Tech campus you are applying at. If you are applying at Indy, I would suggest retaking the TEAS and trying to raise the score a bit. Indy is very competitive due to the higher number of applicants. Also, don't just apply at one campus. If you are in the central area, I would apply at Indy, Columbus, Muncie and B-Town.

That will give you a much better shot at getting in somewhere. Since you have all A's on your pre-reqs, you're sitting really good if you raise your score on the TEAS. I have all A's and a 90.6 on the TEAS. I've talked to a lot of girls at the Lawrence campus that have all A's and mid to high 80's on the TEAS. I would guess you'd need high 80s to be in the running for Indy because there are only so many spots. I believe last year they accepted the top 30 scores into the program. This year, that number is supposed to go up to maybe 50 or so.

Oh...the program mean....ATI takes an average score of a select group of people entering the same type of program you are trying to get into. I'm not sure if this is nationally, or state, or random numbers of people from different areas.

Here is what it says on the info sheet:

"The program mean is the average of the adjusted individual scores of all test takers of your program type (within a specified sample from the ATI data pool) for this assessment within a specified time."

Has any one not done well on the TEAS test. I too have taken it and felt like I was not prepared for the math and science even with studying for a few weeks on end. My science part really hurt me. I was just curious if any one else was unable to proceed due to the TEAS. Passed my pre-req's with all A's. Feeling really frustrated.

Thanks

Hey, you sent me a message but I figured I'd respond here. I only got like a 73 the first time but I studied and took it again and scored an 85. I checked out books about other nursing entrance exams and then studied the TEAS manual nonstop. It helped somewhat but I also memorized some questions on the TEAS that I took. I sat down and wrote out all the questions I remembered and asked friends/family to help me solve them. I then searched online for questions that were similar and that helped. I don't know that I'd recommend memorizing questions because I believe some TEAS tests are different than others, but it worked for me.

www.testpreview.com has pratice TEAS questions for free. It was a great resource for me. Try not to stress too much about it if you take it again. You already know some of what's on it and what to expect, so maybe your anxiety level won't be as high next time and your score will reflect that.

Hi Smile,

I am applying to the ASN program this week. I have all A's on the pre req's, but only got a 79 (78.8 rounded up) on the TEAS. I considered taking it again, but the program chair said they will take the highest score of the TEAS, however, if I fail any portion of the retake, they won't consider either score! Scared me into just keeping my 202 points. It helped that a "reliable" source told me that historically the cutoff has never been above 200 at the Fort Wayne campus. Let's just hope I'm not applying with a bunch of smarty pants:p

What campus are you applying to?
