Ivy Tech Program entry

U.S.A. Indiana

hey i was wondering once you actually start your nursing program how long does it take to finish there are alot of courses how many can you take in one semester and are they like 6 wks longs or 12 wks long. any info would be great.

At Ivy Tech Bloomington the LPN program is 2 16-wk semesters and the RN is 4 16-wk semesters. There is also an option for starting in the Spring and then 1 semester is the 10-wk Summer term. The Transition program (LPN to RN) starts in the Summer.

Once you're in a nursing program, you don't select your schedule, they do. It's usually 4 or 5 days a week. Sometimes you get some half days, but mostly it's full days and clinical days are usually 7a-4:45p.

It depends also on if you have your co-req's done. The more you have done, the less school time.

At Bloomington, once you enter their nursing classes, they own you. They tell you when to jump and how high to jump! They make your schedule, you have no input( or so the nursing chair told us) :chair:

At times, I wonder WHY I am in nursing! Mortuary science is looking better and better all the time!!!:smackingf

I know a couple of people who went for mortuary. Pretty good $ if ya don't mind the dead body thing!

After being an LPN for 17 years, I can deal with the dead body thing of an elderly person............but I know I couldn't with a child. That would just tear me up inside and out.

I guess I am starting to get the burn out of nursing ( ahhh..and here I am going for my RN). :banghead:

I guess I look at it as many more opportunities as an RN and a chance to get away from all the drug seekers that out office has!

When you finish with your RN, you should pick a new area of nursing. Something fresh and interesting that will combat your burnout. That's what I like about this profession, so many different directions a person can go in!

Exactly! Like I always tell my husband, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. But you are very correct. Nursing has so many different areas.

Specializes in Dialysis.

Thanks so much for the info! Getting that kind of info from Ivy tech is like pulling teeth. :thankya:
