I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Are you trying to solve a medication math calculation? The only time I hear about KVO is when there are orders for running fluids into the IV. KVO means keep vein open. This is so the vessel doesn't clot itself off and render the Iv line useless. KVO is just programming the pump so fluids (probably normal saline) run at a very low rate so the vessel will keep open for you.

I'm not sure if this is what your asking. If not you might need to reword your post to help me understand better. :)

First, you said that KVO delivers a very low rate to the vessel to prevent clot formation right? Can you please quantify it? Cause im not so sure if 10 gtts/min(macro set) or do i have to divide the vol of solution to be infuse over 24 hours(e.g 1000/ 24 hours)= 13.75 (macro set).

Secondly, given that 10 gtts/min is KVO on a macro set may problem again is how about in a micro set because if i regulate the micro set to 10ugtts/min there is a big differences in the volume of the solution that is infuse per hour in the micro and the macro set. hoping for a reply,...

About the BT in Fundamentals of Nsg(Kozeir) i came across this sentence that we have to regulate BT for 20 gtts/min for the first 15mins,...and then afterwards regulate it to desired rate then.

yes, that's what I mean, microdrips deliver small amounts of solution and is used mostly for pedia and for more accurate administration for critically ill patients.

For BT, well I just read it in IVT manual booklet that it should be 10-15, for the first 15 mins. then regulate it to prescribed rate (usually based on the patient's condition).
