Okay so I live in Montevideo, Uruguay and it seems that there's a law here that states that anyone working in a hospital HAVE to wear all white scrubs! It doesn't matter if it's a private hospital or not! They HAVE to wear white top! In a few hospitals you can wear teal pants and a white top but other than that it has to be all white! I personally don't agree with this because US females have our days in the month but also if it's hot outside or something just by the body heat and sweat the white top can get dirty faster. I know that you of course wash it. But still I'm going into nursing school next fall here and I honestly have to say that I would hate wearing white scrubs! It's unhygienic and it has no fashion sense! LOL I know that if you're in a hospital probably the last thing you will think about is fashion but you have to be presentable! Also, if you were different colors than Nursing Assistants or whoever in the hospital that also wears white you can differentiate from.
What do you nurses think?!?!?!?!

I've always sort of assumed that the original logic in white uniforms was so that they would show if they were soiled. That said, don't guess I'll be practicing in Uruguay. In school, we were required to wear all whites. With my manly (middle-aged manly) physique, I felt at continuous risk for being harpooned. Avast! When I asked whether we were to wear our uniforms to psych clinicals, the answer was, Dear God, no! Don't wear see-thru pants to the psych hospital. I still question, if they knew they were see-thru, why did they make us order them? But they've since gone to colored pants, white tops.

In french hospital, only white or blue scrubs. No choice, it's not allowed to wearing a colored or printed scrub.
But Scrubs are bought, maintained by the hospital.

It's white all the way here in Italy too, at least for all nursing staff (surgeons are the only exception - teal scrubs). ... You can identify different staff by the coloured borders on their uniforms - blue for nurses, red for the sister/charge nurse, yellow for nursing auxiliaries... you get the picture :) I would agree about the lack of fashion sense (I would love to wear US style coloured scrubs!), but they're certainly not unhygienic.
In St Etienne hospital, everyone are wearing with the same uniform (only doctors).
Patients and their family doesn't understand who is a nurse, a nursing auxilairie, nursing studient or a cleaning lady. It's stupid!!
