Is it a good enough offer?--- help please

Hi, everyone,

Is there any body working at Duke, Wakemed or Rex? I really need some help here. I am new to NC.

The question is if $22 plus some cents (day shift) are good pay for a RN with more than two years med-surg experience. This offer is from WakeMed cary campus. I don't know if I could possibly get a little bit more from negotiation or from Duke or REX. I know I should feel lucky for finding a job right now especially after seeing so many desperate job seekers. My family is in big debt and I just want to help release some financial burden off from my hobby.:o Also, is Cary campus a good place to work? I might have some more interviews this week from Wakemed raleigh campus , REX or Duke. But I have to decide either or not accept this offer before thursday. What should I do? Please, anyone, any input will be appreciated.

I'm not working at any of those facilities at this time. I can tell you that you just can't take Wake at face value. You need to take in account shift diff and w/e diff. I don't know if you should take it or not. I'm not much of a gambler and I would take the for sure job vs maybe. Just my 2 cents8-). Good luck!

Thank you, res0uuga,

It is a day shift, and the unit already have weekend staffs, very unlikely i will work on weekends. so I won't get night or weekend diff anyway. My major income resource relies on the hourly pays. Honestly, i felt disappointed after hearing the quote from HR.

Newarriver, I'm a new RN too, although I have 20 years of LPN experience. It's kind of hard to get it across my experience on a electrionic application. Anyway I worked at WM years ago as a LPN. I worked a lot of w/e and 2/3 shifts, so things was ok. I don't know what Rex pay is like but Duke isn't any better than WM as far as pay is concerned. I don't understand why. Yes I would think pay would be better with 2 years experience, my friend has 4 at Duke and pay isn't much better. Good luck! I would really check out Rex pay. Most site show a pay scale on there job site. I'm really happy you found a job and I nice to do the job you love and get paid for it! I love nursing too!

res0uuga,

thank you very much for your kind and warm reply. As far as the unit itself, I love it, and the manager is great, too. I was excited for getting this job and starting my favorite work again. It was just the salary that turned me down a little bit because of my tight household budget.

I was offered a job at wm Cary a few months back for a dollar less per hour. This is with five yes exp in a specialty care area. The shift diff was great though. I turned it down (not for the pAy, although I was shocked at how low it was) and now have some regrets. From what I am seeing, Rex and duke don't pay any more. So, my opinion, if you like the unit and staff, go for it! Ps, wm did not respond favorably to attempted negotiations in pay either. Good luck!
