Is the ED for me?

Hello!!! I'm an LPN and I currently work in the ED of a level 1 trauma center. I've been in the department for about 4 months. I've assisted in codes, triaged, splinted, thrown a bunch of IVs in patients, all the usual ED stuff. Working in the ED has been my dream...or so I thought. I assisted in a code today and I have yet to get that "high" that I thought I would. My question is does this mean emergency medicine isn't my specialty? How do I know if the ED is where I'm supposed to be?

I don't get a "high" in codes, high acute or trauma situations; I'm more laser focused, have a plan and work it.

I've been in the ED for 9 months; I enjoy the variety and the turnover of not seeing the same or for an extended period, the complex issue that need to be managed and stabilized in a short period of time, teaching pts and families and most of all, the anew irk aspect where my assessment and nursing strategies are recognized and respected amongst the providers.

My best suggestion is what is your endgame? How are you applying your nursing practice to this job? do you enjoy beyond the "skills" that you have learned?

It you can answer the question.

Best wishes.

Emergency Medicine is not your specialty. However, Emergency Nursing may or may not be.
