Interview and a question

I have an interview next week for an aide position on a l&d floor. It does not involve direct patient care, only stocking and cleaning, etc.

Can this be useful at all in terms of a future career in OB nursing? I'll be graduating in May with my associates (RN program), and am trying to make myself as competitive as possible. Hospitals aren't exactly knocking down doors to get to new grads in my area.

I'm also trying to get an externship in l&d in a different hospital, but I figure this is something, a foot in the door, basic hospital experience as an employee (as opposed to just as a student), SOME ob exposure (if not direct experience), because we don't have a rotation in school...

Would I be wasting my time at this, or will this help my "marketability" as a new grad?

No you are not wasting your time. The goal is to get your foot in the door. Learn everything you can. Get to know the nurse managers and other key people. Get to know the nurses. Networking is everything. Good luck to you. :nuke:

this will be a great opportunity for you. the techs on our unit set up delivery tables, so they are very familiar with the instruments used. definitely a leg up.

Go for it!:yeah:

Well I accepted the position, so here's hoping this is my foot in the door, so to speak! :wink2:
