Hi I'm new here!
I'm sure this question has been covered somewhere in this forum, but I can't find it. What is appropriate attire for an interview for a new grad? I live in NYC and the nurses at the hospitals that I am interested in wear colored scrubs or white uniforms. Nursing spectrum says pantsuits are not suitable??!
I have a black pantssuit that I love. And are pointy toe slingbacks too non-traditional for a conservative field?
Thanks!

I know it happens all the time in this day and age of nursing shortages and many many nurses have landed jobs after doing a walk-in interview wearing scrubs, but if your a new grad, it's pretty tacky to interview in scrubs - especially if you aren't already established with that unit or manager (and even if you are). I think a conservative "power suit" is appropriate, whether it be pants or skirt with a jacket. Scrubs are what you wear once you actually get the job and start working, but spiff up and make that great first impression for the interview.
I love a great shoe too - but make sure it's something that is fabulous as well as practical - you're likely to get a tour of the unit/hospital and you may not want to click-clack around on 3" stilettos - know what I mean?
Good luck with your interviews!
Oh - and welcome to Allnurses!!
Thanks for the reply! The shoes I have in mind have about 2" heel. I also remembered that the nurse managers and case managers were all pretty well dressed in the hospital I did my externship at.

We are being taught... women wear a skirted suit or tailored jacket dress w/hose even in summer. Color navy or gray, shoes w/appropriate heels, no open toes, hair up, & nails short. Easy on the makeup. Hope that helps.
