Intercostal Spaces

I just took and EKG Course...and the instructor was very unclear about the placements of the leads...I under stand everything with EKG's except where to place the leads and how to find the intercostal spaces...Can someone help me out?...What do I do?...What am I feeling for?...and how do I know where V1, V2, V3 etc goes?

Try googling EKG lead placement on youtube for a demo or you can also go to your local bookstore and look at the books they have on EKG's. I would try to explain it to you, but it is easier to see it then tell it...plus when I do an EKG, I have done it so many times now over the last 10+ years as a Medical Assistant, I really do not know how I would explain it...sorry, but hope my above suggestions help.

Yes it did thanks...and I was on google last night...looking at pictures of our ribs and all that...i was on you tube, looking at 12 lead placement but they didn't throughly explain it...i want to know where does V1 go?...the 2nd intercostal space?...etc...they were just placing them on the chest and limb without explaiining it..

Here's a good video explaining what you want to know. I'd recommend that you watch the whole video, but they explain it thoroughly around the 6 minute mark and beyond. I hope this helps!
