Integrated Practicum

It is that time in my program where we begin to do our full time clinical rotation (240 hours). We just got our assignments and I feel a little dejected. The director of the program said everyone got either thier first or second choice, but I got placed in a unit I didn't request at all with a shift most inconvienient to me. Alot of students got their first choice of unit and shift. I don't undrestand.

Sometimes there just aren't enough sites and nurses willing to be preceptors. I know for my leadership practicum, they were scrambling at the start of the semester to find people to individually precept everyone in my class. For my senior practicum, it was quite similar. Most people got their first priorities, but I think everyone I know had to work rotating day/night shifts and it was hard to do. Some of your classmates might also have tech or extern experience on floors they'd like to work on, which may give them a leg up.

What unit and shift were you placed on? Do you think it could still be a good learning environment regardless?
