Hi everyone! Good evening. My clinical teacher was telling us the other day about insurance nursing. She has a co-worker who works p/t from home and does assessments for insurance agencies. She makes good money and works from her house. The insurance folks helped set up a room in her home to work out of. I tired to find info. on "insurance nurses" on the site, but could not find mention of it. Is there info. on this board somewhere about it OR can someone tell me more about it? Can new nurses work in this field??
Much thanks!! Epona

Look in the Case Management forum under the Specialty tab. This is for both CM in the hospital and CM at the managed care companies (which is what you are asking about). "Insurance nurses" work at Aetna, US Healthcare, Magellan, etc.
Not sure about new nurses. I would go to one of the insurance company's websites and look at their job postings.

I worked as an insurance nurse in the past. Most insurance companies require bedside experience (usually 2-3 yrs). However, it is best to got to their website. Let me know if you have other questions.

I agree, y ex husband works for Liberty Mutual and they like you to have 2+ years experience. It would be a sweet deal if you get burnt out, or just like that type of work. I figure in my older years I may turn to that. Of course that will be IF I am ever a nurse!
Thank you everyone for your input. I checked around further and yes, it looks like you need a few years experience. Definitley something I will consider after I get some experience behind me.
Thanks to you all!! I will mark this thread. Have a nice evening! :omy:
