What are your views about ethics and harm reduction in Nursing? Vancouver has a medically supervised injection facility (InSite) that has been on operation for 10 years. InSite has 12 injection booths where clients can inject pre-obtained illicit drugs under the supervision of nurses and healthcare staff. InSite also supplies clean injection equipment like, syringes, cookers, filters, water and tourniquets. Nurses also provide other health care services, including wound care and immunizations. InSite also has addictions counselors, mental health workers, and peer staff who connect clients to community resources such as housing, addictions treatment and other supportive services.
Do you view this type of harm reduction ethical for your nursing practice?
