Is it ok with your school to post on an anonymous nursing forum? As many have explained to other posters, your nursing school probably wants you to interview a nurse over the phone or in person. Anyone can answer these questions without really being an oncology nurse. I would find out which department has oncology patients at your local hospital, call the main desk and ask to be transferred to "6 North" (just making it up). Most likely, they will transfer you. Then, hopefully someone will answer who can help you. Explain who you are and see if the unit educator or maybe one of the staff nurses is available. I would try to call in the early afternoon. If not, have them take down your name and phone number and have them get back to you. If you are interested in working oncology, this connection may help you when you are searching for a job after graduation.
