what should i do if im rejected?

Published

Hey,

I am a prenursing student, going for my BSN. I will be applying in about 10 months for fall admission of 07 to four BSN programs in texas. I am in an EMT-B program this semester, and i am really enjoying it. In fact, I think i just love the medical field period. All the stress and excitement and gross stuff makes it very interesting.

so here is my question; what should i do if i get rejected by all of them?

1. Should I continue on at my university for another two years and get a bachelors degree in something like health or psychology? (even though i might not be able to get a job with those degrees, i would still have a bachelors, right? does that mean anything anymore?)

2. OR; since i love the medical field; go into something like respiratory, paramedic, radiology, or radiation therapy? (even though it would be an associates)

thanks and have a splendid day

If you need to start working right away I would go for the resp care, para, radi. If not, then I would just keep working on you BA. I was told by a friend that at the hopital she is at, managment doesn't care if you have a BSN or are just an RN with an unrelated BA. It is all the same to them when it comes to hiring nurse managers. Now if you want to go on and get your MA/PHD then that might be a different story.

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

When it comes to going to grad school for nursing - any BS is a BS - You don't need a BSN, a BS is fine. Some nursing schools in fact do not grant a BSN - they grant a BS - your major just happens to be Nursing, but the degree is not a BSN. TWU is one of those.

If you think you want to teach later, get a BS in Education, if you think you want to be in managment, get a business degree, if you want to get into research get a biology degree, if healthcare informatics appeals to you maybe a BS in computer science would be good.

With a Bachelors in any field and the required pre-reqs, you can do an accelerated RN program in 14 mos!

Then you'd have the best of both worlds.
