Published

back in february i was accepted into a bsn program that starts august 30th. here i am counting the days until i can finally start school. any advice of what i should do between now and then so i can prepare?

here's what i have purchased already:

  • my littman cartiology iii stethoscope in navy blue :redbeathe along with a dinosaur cover for the peds rotation (or everyday if they will let me)
  • blood pressure cuff
  • gait belt
  • bandage sheers - 2 different sizes
  • a couple packs of pen lights
  • nursing clipboard with calculator
  • shoes for my uniform
  • lots of index cards
  • tons of highlighters
  • pens and pencils
  • notebooks
  • dual tipped sharpies
  • taber's cyclopedic medical dictionary, 21st edition
  • a few other random books so i can figure out the best way to learn the medical words and acronyms

any ideas of what else i can get to prepare for the fall? i'm still on the hunt for a watch that i like . . .

also, i'm currently brushing up on my chem, micro and a & p. anything else that i should take time to make sure i know?

thank you!

Just relax and enjoy the free time because your social life will be nursing college very soon. Enjoy yourself before you enter the torture chamber because you are going to be there for the next two years. You will be okay once you remain positive and ignore the trivial stuff. Study hard and speak less; only when you are asking questions about the course. Be careful of what you say and please do not entertain the petty talk with the instructors or else they will stab you in the back and leave you to die. Keep your personal life at home and be careful of who you invite in your life at school.

You sound like you almost have everything needed, but I would recommend you get a care plan book. Amazon has several. They tell you what interventions you can do for EVERY nursing diagnosis, they are very helpful. Good luck and trust me do not say the word nursing the entire summer because when you start school you will get tired of hearing it!

Is there a specific one you use or would recommend? I was thinking about getting one, but figured I should maybe wait to see what my book list says. Or not so I can check it out now :lol2:
