Illinois nurses please help!

Published

Um hi! I need some serious help from some nurses. I was charged with stealing narcotics from work.Long story. My license has never been suspended and even renewed. Did I slip through the crack? This charge is a class 4 felony. I know so far I will have 2 years probation. They changed the charge to possession of a narcotic and its not a felony(pretty sure). Is anyone going to hire me? Do I just be honest and explain the whole story? I was diagnosed recently as manic depressive and was manic when it happened. I did a lot of other stupid things while manic, but didn't know how terribly sick I was. Im now on meds and seeing psych. I love being a nurse, but I was very sick and made some horrible decisions and understand now.

I really cant even wrap my head around what I did. That wasn't "me". Im heart broken. I don't really know what to do for work now. Ive been in healthcare for 10 years. There are no lawyers in my area that represent nurses.

Who reports this to the nursing board? I guess since I haven't been convicted yet is why my license has still been in good standing.

thanks

I'd suggest contacting your Bar Association and ask for a referral. They can direct you to someone with expertise in this area who can meet with you once at very little cost. Even if you need to travel a few hundred miles, it could be worth it.

Good Luck
