If I move

I was wondering. If youre liscensed in MI and move do you have to take a test to be liscensed in the new state you move to? I'm just finishing my first semester so I have a long way to go..but I was just wondering.

Thanks in advance.

Some states acknowledge a MI license and some do not. You would probably have to contact the board of nursing to see if they state you move to accepts it. I believe Ohio and Mi have a deal where you don't need to retest.

You don't have to test again, you just have to apply for a license for that particular state.

You apply for the other states license via endorsement. The process dependent on the state. It can take a few days i.e. you may be able to go to the board of nursing, to as long as a couple months as you have to send in fingerprints for a background check. Some states have temp licenses during the process others don't.

I myself have endorsed to several states, for example FL has a temp license during the process. They require fingerprinting as well. When they first started that they were taking as long as 2 months to get your permanent license. In my case my temp came in about 10 days, the permanent followed about 2 weeks later.

At the other end of the spectrum I endorsed to NM about 9 months after 9-11. They required 2 sets of fingerprints. At the time did not issue a temp card. The state ran background check came back with in days but as one can imagine the federal check fell in to a black hole. It took over 2 months and I was still waiting on that check went they issued the license with a caveat.
