Lisa,
I am an RN, not an LPN, so I can't tell you about how the LPN exam is. I know that the RN boards (NCLEX) are tough - and nursing school is tough, either RN or LPN, but with determination it can be done.
I dont know what kind of work you do now or if you are still in school - try perhaps getting licensed as a CNA and getting your feet wet in a medical environment to see if you like it and "will cut it", as you say. That way you could work a little and make a little money as you go through LPN school if that is what you want.
But why stop at being an LPN? I know a lot of really great LPNs - they actually get more clinical time than most RN programs - but with an RN you have more opportunities open to you. you could always start with LPN and continue on to RN later, if that is what you want.
Don't let money or lack of keep you back - there are plenty of financial aid opportunities. Start by looking around at programs in your area - see what their requirements are, costs, time commitments, etc.
Bottom line is...you can do anything you want to do. The key word is "want" - it will be tough at times so you really have to want it. Good luck.
I believe your fears are just like many considering nursing school. I wish you good luck.:Melody:
