I need help...

Hello all :)

Im an aspiring nursing student at Lehman college. My initial intention was to get into the bachelors program until i messed up badly on my chem. and A&P classes. Now my GPA is well below (2.9) what they require. Im stuck and unsure of what to do... so far Im considering transferring over and doing the LPN certificate program at bronx community college or trying their A.A.S degree instead.( because I know they will let me retake both courses ) I'm not sure what to do. Actually, Im lost and I really really dont wanna give up just yet.

what do i need to get into the associates program in Nursing at BCC?

Do I need to take an entrance exam?

How long does it usually take and can you fast track it, or has anyone fast tracked it?

I Transferred out of BCC back in 2007. You must take the PAX-RN and pass with a 40 in each area (if i'm not mistaken) Then you must pass the infamous PHARM 10 and you get only 2 chances to do so. If you are successful in these 2 area's, then you'll be admitted into the nursing program. I have a friend who graduated last year and she ended up with high blood pressure and began going bald from all of the Stress. You can read many of the Posts on this site about BCC.

If you drive, Dorothea Hopfer in mt. vernon is a good option and Applications are being accepted until June for a January 2010 start date. Rockland Community college is another option, yet there is a 2 semester wait list. I think the fast track is for Lpn's to Rn's. Explore all of your options. Also, both of the above mentioned schools accept C's for all science courses.

Don't give up!! I left BCC to go to Dorothea Hopfer, yet my acceptance was contingent on my passing Chemistry at BCC. I failed Chemistry and lost my spot at Dor Hop. But, God opened another door for me at RCC and I just successfully completed my 1st semester nursing clinicals!!

Thank you for the tips and for responding as well. I've never heard of the paxRN but I will look into it and see what the requirements are... do I need any other prereq courses before I decide to the take the paxRN or I can simply take it with what I have so far. (68 credits...)

I transferred out of BCC because despite the school ranking 5th (Last I heard) of the Country's Best Nursing Programs, They are HORRIBLE!! It is true that if you graduate from BCC, you will be a great nurse, but they put their students through so much foolishness while trying to get into the program. Once you've made it in, that's where the real trouble starts. They Require the Pax-RN exam for entry.

I took the Pax-RN at Phillips Beth Israel School Of Nursing. Although I didn't score high enough in the math portion for Beth Israel, I did very well for BCC. I brought my Pax-Rn results to BCC and they refused to accept them. They said they would only accept it if it had been taken at BCC!! :angryfire What kind of CRAP is that???

I truly believe that BCC is a great school to get ALL of your pre-reqs done cheaply, but after that, I'd probably go to a private school to quickly knock out the Clinical aspects of Nursing. Life is short and Time is of the essence. I wish I'd just gone and done it instead of waiting for Rockland to accept me. Most schools require pretty much of the same pre-req classes. Bio-ethics is a class a lot of folks are taking for transfer to a 4 year college. You might want to look into it.
