An algorithm is usually a diagram, if yes, do this, if no, do that. I'm not sure what you're looking for with a hyperglycemia algorithm though.

Looks like we are on the same wavelength, tryingtohaveitall!!

Shiriin, maybe you need to be looking for a 'sliding scale'?

Are you looking for corrective dosing of insulin for hyperglycemia, or some other actions?

BTW, the use of a simple algorithm or sliding scale is falling out of favor in many places. It is now well established that our really sick or injured patients need much tighter control of their sugars. We now use a protocol that is based on a software program (from Paula Devitt, who is the diabetes/hyperlycemia guru) so that each patient has a 'scale' for insulin dosing based on their resistance factor, weight, physician's goal for the patient. The old standard 'sliding scale' was easy, but didn't get the job done well enough for most patients.

This is from Family Practice Notebook: http://www.fpnotebook.com/Endo/Pharm/InslnSldngScl.htm

As I said, at our facility we're not using this approach anymore. Some of the reasons are mentioned in the FP link I gave here.

Good luck!
