How to turn down a position

I really need some input on this. I accepted a position at a hospital early last summer, and it took until a week ago to be cleared to practice. I could not start the position until I was totally cleared, so I continued to work as an RN while waiting. After putting my notice in, I was offered a position as an APRN at the insitution I am currently employed, and want to accept it. My question is this: I have not met anyone at the other hospital save for the human resource person and one physician. How do I go about turning down the offer? Do I call/email human resources? The contact person for my credentialing? I am at a loss since I really don't know anyone there from more than one interview. Any input is appreciated.

Hi and welcome. I think in your case, I would contact human resources and follow-up with a nice letter. Congratulations. I graduated in May 06 and have been credentialled at 4 of the five hospitals where I work but that fifth hospital is so slow! I was told to look at it as the hospital is probably not too APN-friendly. So...maybe you are better off not working there. At any rate - good luck

I would also attempt to get in touch with that physician you interviewed with and explain your situation. I think he or she deserves that courtesy call. Still be congenial when dealing with both the hospital HR and the physician. Don't burn your bridges - you may need them later.
